"Appalachian's strong commitment to the arts provides students with the tools and resources necessary to be successful throughout their lives." - Lorraine Sinkler, patron and generous supporter of the arts
The Arts Make a Difference
The Department of Theatre and Dance offers students, faculty, alumni, industry professionals and members of the greater community a chance to engage in fully staged theatre, dance and touring productions. These performances enhance the university’s academic curriculum while providing more than 10,000 people each year opportunities to experience the arts. The popularity of the productions in Valborg Theatre has increased, as has enrollment of students into the department’s new dance studies major.
Appalachian sees this new facility as a continuation of its long-standing commitment to the arts as a valuable component of every student’s education. Students who have incorporated the arts into their undergraduate educations are not only effective problem-solvers, but also valued employees.
The Vision for the Valor Center
The Valor Center for Theatre and Dance will be a state-of-the-art venue with a 150-seat proscenium theatre that will also serve as a classroom. Two large studios will provide rehearsal and performance space critical for a comprehensive curriculum.
This vision began with the generosity and commitment of Lorraine Sinkler, whose longtime dedication to the department culminated in a recent estate gift to support the Valor Center. Her legacy will change the lives of students for many years to come.
How You Can Help
Valborg Theatre is currently scheduled to capacity, limiting our students’ opportunities to have the best possible experience while pursing their degrees and reducing the number of student performances our patrons can attend.
Your support will make an impact on future generations of students and patrons of the theatre and dance program. A financial commitment today will ensure the completion of the Valor Center and make a difference in the lives of our students.
Your Support Will Bring This Facility to Life!
Help realize the vision of a state-of-the-art performance and classroom facility that will give our students the opportunity to flourish. Leave your own legacy and help make the dreams of the Theatre and Dance students come true.
