Connecting people, technology, expression, innovation and creativity

The College of Fine and Applied Arts transforms students into leaders by providing a well-rounded liberal education, instilling vital communications skills, fostering sustainability concepts and practices, creating laboratory learning experiences with cutting edge technology and expanding appreciation for cultural diversity. This creative educational environment prepares students for careers in a variety of fields.

The college is home to five departments: Communication, Technology, Theatre and Dance, Art and Military Science and Leadership. Our team of 150 faculty and staff and a passionate alumni base of over 10,000 bring together a variety of perspectives, talent and hands-on educational opportunities for more than 3,800 undergraduate and graduate students.

For continued success and innovation in its academic programs, the College of Fine and Applied Arts must invest in technology, laboratories, studios and equipment. To recruit and retain the best and brightest students and the most talented faculty, we must be able to provide travel, research and professional development opportunities comparable to those offered at other leading institutions. To matriculate future leaders, we must be able to deliver learning experiences beyond our campus, and offer these experiences to all students — including those with financial need. It is only with private resources that we will be able to provide a future in which these needs are fulfilled. With your help, Appalachian’s College of Fine and Applied Arts can ensure a bright future for our students, and help them change the world.

Special projects

  • The Beasley Media Complex is the continuation of Appalachian's longstanding commitment to provide the most innovative and advanced educational experiences for our students. With the technological advances provided in this center, students will gain immeasurable opportunities while earning a well-respected degree, preparing them for successful broadcasting careers.

  • The Department of Theatre and Dance offers students, faculty, alumni, industry professionals and members of the greater community a chance to engage in fully staged theatre, dance and touring productions. These performances enhance the university’s academic curriculum while providing more than 10,000 people each year opportunities to experience the arts. The popularity of the productions in Valborg Theatre has increased, as has enrollment of students into the department’s new dance studies major. The Valor Center for Theatre and Dance will be a state-of-the-art venue with a 150-seat proscenium theatre that will also serve as a classroom. Two large studios will provide rehearsal and performance space critical for a comprehensive curriculum.
